Trans slippage started today. Reverse to drive, push down on gas nothing. Eventually engages. Nuetral to drive, same thing. Ambient Temp 80 degrees. Will post actual trans temp tomorrow. Cannot determine codes as On Star cannot monitor. (Bluetooth upgrade) But no dash lights. Transmission was in Normal mode. Milage 41K. Trans was serviced at 30-31K No leaks seen on garage foor. I Will take to Dealeron Monday . I called On Star and had them make a notation in their records. Any ideas?

Look for the thread about mine. I worked on it at the transmission shop where I work. Same mileage. The drums in these transmissions have welds that crack and cause pressure loss, and the clutches burn up because of it.

Sounds like she may be gone or the TCM inexplicably went kaput. I had my transmission replaced about seven months after it was purchased in January 2010 (I believe). The symptoms were: the car shuddered, jerked, loud bangs and pops all coming from seemingly the rear end of the vehicle. To top it all off, the speedometer always had an incorrect readout and rarely registered more than 30 miles per hour on the freeway. Long story shorter, the planetary gear seized so bad that the transmission couldn't be torn down, but only removed. As you very well know, our transmissions are completely enclosed and don't have a factory dipstick in place by which to check it's fluid level. Assuming you haven't seen any fluid on the ground, and if it were out of fluid I believe it would be more apparent, i.e. a catastrophic failure. As mentioned above, the cars are equipped with a TCM (transmission control module), so maybe it went out as I'm unsure of the implications this would have on a vehicle. At any rate GL to a speed resolution and be sure to keep us posted and updated on your progress. Subscribed.

Trans fluid level is normal. KGENESSE any tech bulletins on this problem? Any hard (written) data as to what they found on yours. I will pm you.

#5 ·
UPDATE - No leaks in tranny. No codes detected by the service tech. He stated car idling 100 rpms lower than normal. Needed Throttle Body Cleaned. (That was done 3K miles ago) Taking it back into the dealership. A lot of BS.

#6 ·
Everyone says the trans is toast but GM. They are sending the dealership "codes/program" to be flashed in. seems that GM has a very intense assesment program that could take 100,000 miles to detect the problem.

#7 ·
By serviced at 30K miles was it drained or flushed? And why? This is a sealed transmission assembled in a clean room why open it up with so few miles on it?

#8 ·
Because thats what the Dealer recommended. They said that they did not totally agree with the GM guidelines. Fluid changed and so was the filter, all with OEM Parts and fluid. Could be a code/programming problem. My guess is valve body or bad welds on the drum. It will be interesting to see what it turns out to be.

Kgeneese found the post with your service ticket. I am printing out a copy. I could not find the thread on the weld problem. Thanks

Make sure the fluid level is right. I noticed u said you checked it but there is probably a procedure to check it properly. I had my Escalade tranny serviced recently (6 speed auto) and it ws fealing funny when I left dealer. I went accelerate up a hill and started surging bad. It felt like it was starving for fluid. Anyhow the tech swore he filled it up but it was 2 quarts low no leaks.

LATEST

Dealer tried the code/programming fix. Did not work

GM has now directed that on Monday the trans is torn down. Here is what they want done:

Valvebody - inspect all valves (Remove and drop in bore)

Forward clutch and input seal rings.

There is another twist to the story. At 2700 miles I had the rotors "burnished" (sp) But on the vehicle history report it states that the Dealer also did something with the clutches in the trans. No idea and I was not aware of this. ALSO, there is a ticket that that two of the LCAs were replaced. BUT it was with the old P/N. Something strange indeed.

#12 ·
So your saying they did warranty work with out complaining about the issue? Then not telling you? The LCAs are a problem, but I would like to know if my trans is going to ripped down.

But, if you have issues, you now have it in writing.

Sounds like to me the dealership is fishing for work. No?

Be sure to keep us posted Panzer Leader as I'm very interested to see how things turn out for ya. At this point, I don't have anything significant to add to the thread, but will chime in whenever possible. I believe a transmission for our cars runs a little under 3k to the general public. There's no telling how little a new one would cost GM, but it seems they're content with salvaging this one. GL

GM told dealer that parts are on back order. So they are going to put trans back together and want me to turn in loaner. Then, when parts are available, they will again tear down the trans. This is the 2nd time this trans will have been repaired. I will give them one last shot. Then its either a new trans OR I will file under the Lemon Law. Maybe I should write "Barry" at the White House, since he stated publically that the government was backing the warranty. So if you have a V6 watch your trans.

Hang in there brother!!! I would call both the stealership and GM to request a little bit of information, since after two weeks they should have some sort of idea where the project stands and where to from here. Moreover, you might have to light a small fire under their hind-parts in order to get the ball moving at an increased rate of speed. Just my $.02 and GL!!!

Dear Panzer Leader,

I have read your posts about your situation with your Pontiac G8. Did you have a case set up about your situation? If you had a case set up about your particular situation with your vehicle, the dealership and General Motors, would you mind providing me with that number via private message? I am trying to gather information so I can research this further.

Sincerely,
Michelle, GM Customer Service

UPDATE: Captain's LOG STARTDATE 062411

GM TO DEALER: No transmission parts until August. Major labor disruptions at the Stanlingrad Tractor Plant

DEALER TO ME: No trans parts till August; major backorder on same parts. 16 other customers are affected.

MYSELF TO THE FORUM: GM,Logistics pipeline is constrained by KLINGON Birds of Prey. Or U-Boats are sinking more Allied Shipping carrying your repair parts. And France is holding meetings on possible surrender terms. However, despite these and other set backs, the Panzer keeps moving.

STARFLEET COMMAND REPAIR PARTS DEPOT UPDATE

eta 1st week of august
part#96042807=forward clutch w/input shaft

Informed today that the needed transmission parts not available until August 24th. Attendence at the International Meet is now in doubt. Alternative is to drive as is, and hopefully, the whole trans goes out.

I just have to chime in here. A similar thing happened to my wife's 1997 Sunfire. For some odd reason I let the dealer perform a "service" on a perfectly functioning factory sealed transmission at 75000 miles and the trans self destructed about three weeks later. Unfortunately the factory warranty was 50K at the time. After a disturbing episode with the dealer service department I was out 1800 bucks for a new transmission. I guess the lesson here is no service on the trans and just replace it when it finally crashes. Funny thing is that the remanufactured trans lasted until we sold the car 9 months ago with 187000 miles on it.

^ My thoughts exactly. But I am still under warranty. I am calling GM Monday. Possible Lemon Law case. I will have to call President Obama as a whitness. "I gaurantee that your GM warranties will be honored." Worse case, cash in the extended warranty, forgo the new tires, forgo the International Meet and get rid of it. I am not pleased at all, and will not purchase another GM car again.

#24 ·
Panzer,

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Maybe Michelle at GM can make lemons out of lemonade and find out where those tranny parts of yours are!!

OR .... maybe she can help escalate to see if under threat of legal action, that they can forgo their "missing parts" and replace your transmission.

Neither seems like it would happen, but it can't hurt to dream. Sorry for all your troubles.

ZEPCOM, Dealer said same thing, Just put a new transmission in the damn thing. Well I have started shopping around but it looks like it will be an Infiniti G37S. I would rather take my hit now and keep my sanity.

#27 ·
Yeah, while they're awaiting parts to piece together the puzzle, just order the puzzle already and send this man on his way... UGH!!!!

Well headed to the Dealer today, spoke with a Rep from GM. He asked the same questions as the last rep. (Same question data input sheet) And I now have a new file number. (Thats number 3). Oh the parts? No info of course, did you really think there would be anything? But they were really, really, sorry and I would be hearing something soon. (Maybe from Louie, at the French Tractor Transmission Plant Number 3)

Latest word, spoke with the GM Customer Service rep, named Nichol. Very nice young lady who really wanted to get this problem corrected. She told me that there was no sign of the parts being shipped. Louie in Paris was still appearently sipping wine. Three days ago I spoke with the Dealership, still no word. Then, a call from the Dealer later that same day. The parts have arrived! What is a mystery is that no one knows where they came from. The Part Request Number they were shipped on, was the original request number that was cancelled out due to non availability. Well anyway the car goes in on Monday the 22nd. Will take about 3 days for repairs. They will again look at all the LCAs and the driveshaft. So at this point I guess I will make the International Meet afterall.
